There are five grants that the Trust distribute pūtea through, in addition to our initiatives.

Ngā Ika a Whiro - Tikanga Fund
Kaumātua Hauora and Wellbeing Grant
The purpose of this contestable fund is to support initiatives organised by Ngāti Whakaue individuals or groups that aim to ‘improve the hauora and wellbeing of Ngāti Whakaue kaumātua’.

Available support
Up to $4,000 is available per application. The amount is awarded at the discretion of the Trust.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the fund groups must:
- Be a service/activity/project that caters to only Ngāti Whakaue kaumātua
- Be a service/activity/project that address at least one or more of the priority areas identified below
Priority Areas
Exercise – activities that help Whakaue kaumātua to improve or increase their level of exercise.
Health and Wellbeing – health and wellbeing initiatives that incorporate mātauranga māori solutions.
Transport and accessibility – activities that provide consideration for transporting kaumātua
marae tautoko
The Marae Tautoko Grant is an annual distribution. For the financial year ended 30 June 2024 the allocated grant was $25,000 per marae.
The purpose of this distribution is to support our eligible marae to stay functional, active and sustainable. These six Marae (including Te Papaiouru) belonging to one or more of the koromātua hapu of Ngāti Whakaue although they must be active to receive the Marae Tautoko Grant.
Waikuta Marae is currently inactive.

tūpuna whare
TE PAPA-I-O-URU MARAE
The purpose of this grant is to support on-going maintenance cost of the main Tūpuna whare, Tamatekapua. For the financial year ending June 2024, $10,000 was allocated to this fund.
wāhi tūpuna
The purpose of this distribution is to support our eligible wāhi tūpuna to stay functional, active and sustainable.
The eligibility and criteria of this grant is currently under review.
Ngā ika a whiro | Tikanga Fund
The purpose of this distribution is to support te paepae tapu and koeke of Ngāti Whakaue in discharging cultural responsibilities for Ngāti Whakaue. For the financial year ended 30 June 2024, $24,000 was allocated to this fund.
This fund is administered by a Ngāti Whakaue Paepae Committee.
