In addition to our initiatives, we distribute pūtea through the following channels:

wāhi tūpuna

Ngāti Whakaue Assets Trust have a distribution goal to support our wāhi tūpuna to remain functional, active and sustainable.

The purpose of the contestable fund is to support projects or activities organised by Ngāti Whakaue individuals or groups that aim to achieve this goal.

Applications are now open and will close June 20, 2024 .

Definitions

Wāhi Tūpuna - for the purposes of this grant, wāhi tūpuna are places or areas that enhance the wairua or connection of Ngāti Whakaue ki te taiao, or places of spiritual significance.

Ngāti Whakaue – is defined in our Trust deed as:

1. Individuals that derive their whakapapa from Whakaue Kaipapa and Tūtanekai;

2. Individuals who are descended from and belong to one or more of the Koromātua Hapū of Ngāti Whakaue;

3. Individuals who are descended from one or more of the 295 original listed persons awarded title and ownership and title to Pukeroa Oruawhata Block in 1881; and,

4. The principle pā and the active marae.

Available support

A contestable fund of $20,000 is available for distribution amongst all eligible applications received.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the fund groups must:

• Be a service/activity/project that caters to Ngāti Whakaue, in the Ngāti Whakaue rohe

• Applications must be completed and received in full by the deadline

marae tautoko

The Marae Tautoko Grant is an annual distribution. For the financial year ended 30 June 2024 the allocated grant was $25,000 per marae.

The purpose of this distribution is to support our eligible marae to stay functional, active and sustainable. These six Marae (including Te Papaiouru) belonging to one or more of the koromātua hapu of Ngāti Whakaue although they must be active to receive the Marae Tautoko Grant.

Waikuta Marae is currently inactive.
